 The question asked in the commentary of the question is very good.
According to the point of view, the current Internet is wireless + wired (the entire process of completing user access to Internet content).

In terms of disassembly, users (more and more) access the content and services provided by Internet service providers through the carrier's transport network (fiber) through the radio access network (RAN) provided by the operator, and the Internet. Provider and carrier networks are often wired (fiber-optic) interconnected (IDC).

Whether it should be wireless or wired, depending on the application requirements

The demand for access networks is relatively low (but higher) per user bandwidth, but users have high mobility requirements - which is why operators and device manufacturers have been working to improve faster mobile networks, 2G. -3G-LTE-5G;

The carrier's transport network (base station-core network) has no mobile requirements and high bandwidth requirements (n*GE/10GE/100GE). The wireless communication means is in China, but only in the case of wired communication unreachable (no Solution)

The transmission between the carrier's core network and the Internet provider requires extremely high bandwidth (n*10GE/100GE), and there is no need for mobility at all. Only the optical fiber can meet the requirements. Lai Zhenbo

The requirements for broadband connectivity have been increasing, from the earliest kbps to the current Gbps era, which has been driving technological advancement. The most typical requirement for Internet connectivity is "broadband", which is large enough to meet the transmission requirements of video and large files. From the perspective of technical realization feasibility, the bandwidth of fixed network has always had a great advantage over the wireless of the same generation. Therefore, the Internet is mainly based on fixed network and supplemented by mobile.

1. Wired bandwidth is unlimited
Fixed network from copper to light, technology has also evolved from xDSL to FTTH, single-user experience from Mbps to Gbps.
According to Shannon's theorem, the rate (capacity) depends on the signal bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio. The fixed network uses a very large signal bandwidth (such as optical signals, each carrier is much larger than the signal bandwidth of the wireless system), and the signal is enclosed in the cable. The signal-to-noise ratio of the fixed network transmission is much higher than that of the wireless system. Therefore, the rate of fixed networks has always been much higher than that of contemporary wireless.
Of course, the fixed network itself is also a process from small bandwidth to large bandwidth. From copper wire electrical signal transmission to large bandwidth transmission of light, the fixed network slowly turns to the all-optical network, and the dry network is the optical network. The last 1km of copper wire is continuously replaced by light. User bandwidth continues to increase to 1Gbps or even higher. In theory, because the fixed network uses cables, the number of cables can be increased to increase the system capacity, such as the number of copper lines and the number of cores to increase the capacity, so the capacity of the cable system is unlimited. 2. The wireless bandwidth is limited. The initial goal of the wireless communication system is mainly for voice communication (of course, fixed network is also). Later, the wireless bandwidth is getting larger and larger, and the data service is slowly developing. Wireless communication mainly has two factions, one is 3GPP-led mobile communication, and the other is IEEE-led wireless data communication, which is 802.11X (such as the well-known Wi-Fi). The biggest advantage of wireless network is mobility. Its bandwidth is much smaller than that of contemporary fixed networks. The main reason is that wireless communication systems currently use sub-6G frequency band. The bandwidth of each carrier ranges from a few hundred k of 2G to 20MHz of 4G. It is several orders of magnitude smaller than the fixed network (such as light); in addition, because the wireless is transmitted in space, the signal-to-noise ratio is far less than the fixed network due to mutual interference of signals, so the wireless experience rate is much lower than that of the contemporary fixed network.
